MIDI Converter: Reference IVS File

The MIDI Converter creates one Basis effect for each channel and percussion instrument used in channels of a MIDI file that have been selected for conversion. Having one different Basis effect per channel or percussion instrument creates an accurate and compelling Timeline effect.

The reference IVS file contains predefined Basis effects that match the General MIDI 1 instrument set and percussion map. When converting a MIDI file, these predefined Basis effects are used to generate the Basis effects of the resulting Timeline effect.

A customized IVS reference file can be used instead of the default IVS reference file. It is important to not change the name of the Basis effects in the IVS reference file. The name of Basis effects must match the General MIDI 1 instrument set and percussion map names. For your reference, the General MIDI 1 instrument set and percussion map are listed in the next sections.

How to create a customized IVS reference file

A good starting point for creating a customized IVS reference file is the default IVS reference file. You can directly modify the default IVS reference file to customize it, or make a copy before doing any modification.

If you customized the default IVS reference file, your customization will be automatically reflected in at the next MIDI conversion. If your customized IVS reference file is not the default file, you will have to tell the MIDI converter which IVS reference file to use through "the Component Effect Creation" option.
