File Import

can import data from an IFR, IVT, SKM, MP4, or K3G file. The data in these files are analyzed and used to create new IVS objects (Effects or Mulimedia links) in the active document. Several files can be imported into one IVS document, so that data from different files can be combined in to one IVS file. The main purpose for the import of these files is to easily create, view, and modify effects from existing files.

To Import a file, select File from the main menu and then select Import. The Import submenu provides a choice between the following file formats.

IFR File

Created by Immersion Studio for Gaming, an IFR file contains information similar to an IVS file. An IFR file contains data for several types of effects as well as data for Wave file audio links. While not all of the effects in an IFR file map to an IVS effect, Periodic, Vector and Compound effects from an IFR file are translated into Periodic, MagSweep and Timeline effects in an IVS file. Due to a difference in effect architecture, a single effect in an IFR file is converted into a Basis and a Timeline effect. Since Basis effects do not contain a parameter for storing StartDelay (IFR effects can store this parameter), the Timeline created for an IFR effect stores the StartDelay value in a LaunchEvent.

The Import of IFR files is provided solely for the ease of transfer of effect data from pre-existing IFR files. Any new effects for use with the should be created and designed in .

IVT File

An IVT file is a binary compact version of the effect information contained in an IVS file. An IVT file is created by through data export, so that an application can use the to play effects designed in . After exporting an IVT file, can still access all the data in an IVT file by using the Import feature.

Basis effect magnitudes and periods may be adjusted slightly when exporting and importing IVT files.

When importing IVT files containing Waveform effects, creates temporary files in the user's temporary files folder. The temporary files contain the Waveform effects' sampled data. When the user saves the document, the Waveform effects' sampled data are saved in non-temporary files under the folder where the document is saved, and the temporary files are removed.

SKM File

It is possible to import SKM files into . SKM files are SK Telecom video files that are optimized for streaming and may contain data. When importing an SKM file into , if the file contains any data, the data will be translated back into the native data for . The required Basis effects and launch events will also be created and placed in the Timeline. The Basis effects are given default names. It is important to remember that this is not an SKM converter, it just displays the effects that are already contained in the SKM file. A Timeline from an imported SKM file will look different from the original Timeline before exporting to SKM format, however, the effects will feel identical to the original when played.

To import an SKM file in , from the File Menu select Import, then select SKM File and choose an SKM file from the Open dialog box. Click Open to open the SKM file.

MP4 File

It is possible to import MP4 files into . MP4 files are video files and may contain data. When importing an MP4 file into , if the file contains any data, the data will be translated back into the native data for . The required Basis effects and launch events will also be created and placed in the Timeline. The Basis effects are given default names. It is important to remember that this is not an MP4 converter, it just displays the effects that are already contained in the MP4 file. A Timeline from an imported MP4 file will look different from the original Timeline before exporting to MP4 format, however, the effects will feel identical to the original when played.

To import an MP4 file in , from the File Menu select Import, then select MP4 File and choose an MP4 file from the Open dialog box. Click Open to open the MP4 file.

K3G File

It is possible to import K3G files into . K3G files are KTF video files that are optimized for streaming and may contain data. When importing a K3G file into , if the file contains any data, the data will be translated back into the native data for . The required Basis effects and launch events will also be created and placed in the Timeline. The Basis effects are given default names. It is important to remember that this is not a K3G converter, it just displays the effects that are already contained in the K3G file.
